It uses a solar year divided into 2 lunar months-

Each month in a year consists of 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes, and 3 seconds as per the gujarati calendar / Jyotish Shastra. To balance the lunar months into a solar year, at intervals of 30 months, an extra month called Adhik Maas/Mahino or Purushottam maas is added to the Calendar.
