Dhordo Village to Feature as Gujarat’s Tableau in Republic Day Parade

The picturesque Dhordo village in Kutch, celebrated for its recent recognition as one of the 54 best tourism villages by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), is set to be the highlight of Gujarat’s tableau in the upcoming Republic Day parade in New Delhi at 26th Jan 2024. This prestigious inclusion reflects the village’s unique charm and its significant contribution to Gujarat’s tourism landscape.

Under the theme ‘Dhordo:

Global Identity of Gujarat’s Border Tourism,’ the tableau will be an integral part of the 75th Republic Day celebrations on Kartavyapath, scheduled for January 26 2024. This theme encapsulates Dhordo’s remarkable journey to global recognition and its role in representing a “developed India” that harmoniously blends tradition with tourism.

Dhordo’s selection by the UNWTO as one of the ‘best tourism villages 2023 underscores its exceptional status in showcasing Gujarat’s vibrant and diverse culture. Overcoming numerous challenges, Dhordo has risen as a prime example of the state’s border tourism’s resilience and allure.

The tableau is expected to portray the village’s cultural and architectural heritage vividly. It will feature the iconic ‘Bhunga’ houses โ€“ traditional mud huts that are a hallmark of Kutch architecture and recognized by the UNWTO.

Additionally, it will highlight local handicrafts, the exquisite Rogan art, and elements of the famous ‘Rann Utsav,’ a festival that transforms the white desert into a carnival of music, dance, and art.

A special inclusion in the tableau is the representation of ‘Garba,’ the folk dance of Gujarat, which has been declared as the state’s ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage’ by UNESCO. This will add a layer of cultural richness to the tableau, illustrating the vibrancy and spirit of the Gujarati community.

Dhordo’s presence in the Republic Day parade is a testament to its transformation into a top tourist destination and a beacon of Gujarat’s cultural and tourism prowess. As India celebrates its 75th Republic Day, Dhordo stands as a symbol of the nation’s rich heritage, diverse culture, and the promising future of rural tourism.
